So I've found using 5LED T10's the easiest/most effective. They simply go into the original bukb housing/screw.

1. Remove T10's from original housings.

2. Remove original Bulbs from AirCon chip board.

3. Remove original bulbs from housings.

4. Refer to below images. While the housing is at the back of the board, feed the wiring for the T10 through the front of the board and then carefully into the housing and twist wiring around housing like the original bulbs where, to fit. Then simply screw in. Remembering you may need to switch around if they don't light up.

So I've noticed that the lights are quite dim on the Aircon controls. The right side being the most dim. While doing something today I decided to check them out and noticed that the one on the right is burnt out.

I need to get a spare but unsure of the part number, etc. Anyone?

I also noticed the LED's are covered in this transparent green rubber, which I have since removed.

Those are not LED's and the green cover gives you the green light...
You can however buy actual LED's on eBay for these with a choice of colours...

Well I searched for some time and couldn't find anything, but I cam across the following post for an LED mod which seems good:

http://www.newcelica...ad.php?t=316613

This post shows that the LED's needed are "Neo Wedge T4"

http://www.newcelica...ad.php?t=331605

So seeing that the Speedo is Amber as well as my stereo, I may as well continue with the theme,

To anyone interested, I will purchase some Amber LED's and let you know how it goes.

Yah, just realised. I'm getting some SMD LED's. Hopefully they bright enough!

Haha and I know the covers give green light, but that's why it's so dim. That cover blocks some light out...

Ive got SMD interior lighting and SMD's for parking lamp outside my car.

Ive also got a computer full of SMD's

They are DAM bright, but they are only good for directional lighting, rather than ambient glow, so in this case they will work really well.

Seeing that i'm going with an all Amber theme, I looked at the light around the ciggerete lighter and ash tray and thought it needs chaging as well. Don't think it can be done that easily. So I just pulled off the green cover and now it's Amber.

Not recommended !! lol

They don't fit properly. Glad I got 4 of them. I butchered 2 haha. Had a small Stanley knife which I used to remove one clip per led to be able to fit them in. Don't know how secure they are. Hopefully they stay in place. Might look for some better quality ones. But for now I'm happy.

So from a few road bumbs, the LED's stopped working. The issue with getting these in was in regards to 2x LED's per T4, hence a rectangular shape, which made it hard to fit in the circle cut out. That is why I had to hack away at them.

I've ordered other style T4's and will see how they go. The actual board itself where the the LED's screw onto, has the plastic shroud that covers it and blocks some of the light. I might hack away at certain parts so the light comes through better.

I feel stupid. I have the original bulbs on my bed side table and realised that I can simply take out the exsisting bulb and keep the plastic housing. Was about to throw them out.

One of the reasons the aftermarket T4 LED's aren't that good, is the plastic housing. The twist and lock bits on either side are obviously not good as the original plastic housing, so there harder to lock into place.

Anyway, I removed the bulbs from the original plastic housing and realised I can just get an LED and place them in there. At least that way they will lock into place much better.

So this week I will open my dash again, remove the butchered T4 LED's I have in there and then place the LED's into the original plastic housing. While it may still be a bit difficult to get the LED into the whole of the board, at least when I do get them in, they will lock into place.

You purchased LED's from a ebay seller, trouble is expected. I get my LED's from superbrightleds.com because they are custom made for the celica and extreamly easy to work with. You pay more obviously but its worth it

I use a variety of places (As I said at the TOC meet), but try wiring them in custom like mine. Basically I got my LEDs from Spree LED designed for the 6GC, and you have to remove the plastic cover and are left with this:

Makes mounting a lot easier in certain places :)

And as I also said, I got this to start making my own circuits, cost me $3 for all these:

Yeah I know ebay isn't the greatest place. I have no problem spending the extra $$.

I want to learn more about electronics to be able to make my own custom LED's. That would be good.

So I purchased these LED bulbs:

http://www.ebay.com....=item19b7f44bbb

Just as powerful, but same downside with the SMD LED's, the directional lighting. So some parts are much brighter than others. But much better than stock !!

Suggestions: I need suggestions on what to use to transfer the light from the LED's to other parts of the aircon control on the left (right side is fine) SO basically want to get the far let options illuminated more.

But, these are much easier to fit, twist into place a lot better and the wiring is hard, in terms of not the flimsy/easily bendable type like the SMD's and most LED's. So the ones in the link above are better.

But.... they sent me the wrong colour.. They sent me green. So now waiting or the Amber ones.

In the mean time, this is how the green looks. I changed the stereo colour to match :P

I think with white you probably won't have the issue with darker colours in terms of once side being brighter than the other. Well not as bad anyway.

Yeah it appears like the LEDs are too directed for lighting where as the bulb has more of an ambient glow so prob gunna be the same.

LED have about a 20-25% viewing angle, they are VERY directional, and the only way to remedy this is to put more LEDs in the place where it is not lit...

Yah, so I'm thinking of using the SMD's with the dodgy wiring (as the bend easy) and attach them to the new LED's I installed and then point towards the area that is poorly lit.

i've also cut part of the black plastic shroud which I can post up a photo of, to allow more light through.

Ok, if anyone else considering changing these, I'd suggest holding off. I've ordered other LED's and want to try something a little different that may (should) give full illumination to the whole aircon cluster. That's if I can fit it all in. Should be received before the end of the week.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.
