Thanks mate :-)

You're timing for asking about updates is quite ironic! The car has been back at the mechanic for the last few weeks with overheating issues.  Now it looks like the brand new head has to come off as no other cause can be found....

The joys of being a GT4 owner!  I've one done around 1700kms on the engine since it was rebuilt.

Will post up some more pics once I have them.

Cheers

Time for an update...

After the head came off there was a leak into the water jacket which i was told was from the (brand new) head gasket. Replaced that again... water still being used.

At that point i decided to take the car to a new mechanic who actually seems to give shit. He pulled the head again and called me.. block cracked in 3 places leaking into the water jacket. Totally fubar.

So... after stewing for months and having my previous builder tell me basically shit happens, ive started over. Again. My thanks to some members of the forum who helped me out with a replacement block and a few other parts. I also sourced an upgraded gen2 head with cams, cam gears and valves and springs.

Also have bought a sidefeed intake manifold from the usa and a haltech ecu and digital dash.

I gave up counting a long time ago how much this has cost. Its been a painful lesson to learn but im happy where everything is at now. Hopefully in 3 weeks ill have her back on the run in tune and will finally see whats shes really capable of. 400hp at the wheels is the goal. Anything more is a bonus.

Cheers

It would be nice to think that dollars equals results but that isnt always the case. I had 320hp in the old build and to be honest it was okay but didnt wow me.

If it doesnt power up this time that will be it. I really dont think there is much else i can that i havent already done.

Time will tell on this one boys. I dont just want a good st185 gt4. I want a crazy nuts one. So ill either achieve that goal or blow up another engine in the pursuit!

Watch this space.

Small update....

Dropped into the mech today. Bottom end is completely reassembled and painted. Had to put some new je pistons in as the old set were too small.

Engine bay has been cleaned and painted and has come up really well. Wiring loom is out and been tidied up and stripped of anything not needed.

Head is still at the machine shop. Getting o/s valves put in and a port and polish while its there. Already has upgraded cams cam gears and valve springs.

Also bought the coil on plug kit which arrived yesterday and a moroso alloy sump for when i get to the track eventually. So hopefully once its all done ill have a beast of an engine that is reasonably reliable as well.

Well its been a little while again. But hopefully almoat there.

The engine is rebuilt again. After a lot of modification the new intake plenum, coil on plug system and moroso sump are all installed. New intercooler piping and intercooler installed and completed.

She starts for the first time in anger tommorrow all going well. The new haltech ps1000 and digital dash are all installed and ready to go. The cost... more than i care to think about. The reward.... priceless.

Will let you know how it goes.

Start up went well.

Run in started.

Made 186kw at the wheels on a run in tune at 10psi rev limited to 6000 rpm but the power was still climbing at the limiter.

Very interested to see what she will do one the full tune and high boost.

Well results are in :-)

250kw at 20psi on 98 octane.

325kw at 27psi on e85.

Bucket loads of torque. Cant wait to get the car back and drive the wheels off it.

Cant speak highly enough of my mechanics at capalaba motor repairs. Too notch build and advice at every turn (of which there were many). Hard to believe but these numbers are a relatively conservative tune on my new engine. Can take more timing and boost but i didnt see the point at the moment. Revs out to almost 7000 before it keels over. Will be interesting to see if the gearbox and diffs hold up to the higher power level.

Will post up my dyno graph when i can later with a full build summary.

Cheers

Greg

As there has been so many changes over this build (and rebuild)  I just thought I would do through a full list of the upgrades since I bought the car back in April 2014.

Exterior and body

Rays Gram light 17 x 8 rims

BC Racing Gold Coilovers

Replacement of all bushes with superpro polyurethane bushes

Clear side and front indicators

Full 3 inch exhaust with Hiflow cat and HKS Silent Hi Power Exhaust

Interior

Haltech PS1000 stand alone ECU

Haltech Racepak Dash

TWM shortshifter

Dynamat from front to back

Engine

St185 Block.  Bored to 86.5mm.

JE Pistons.

ARP Head studs. Upgraded Rods.

Oil filter relocation kit and Moroso alloy sump

New water pump and oil pump.

Precision 5858 Turbo with .64 rear housing

Custom CMR exhaust manifold with turbosmart wastegate

Custom CMR dump pipe

Custom CMR Air intake and HKS air filter

St185 Head with port and polish.  1mm oversized valves and shimless buckets conversion.  GSC power division 268 cams and custom cam gears

Metal Head Gasket

Racer X intake plenum with Plazmaman throttle body ( cut and customised to fit)

Racer X COP kit (machined to fit)

Plazmaman upgraded FMIC

Custom intercooler piping by CMR.

Custom Oil catch can

Custom Power steering cooler

I'm sure there is more but that is what comes to mind at the moment :-)  Very happy with the outcome.  A lot of up and downs but hopefully now all ups.  A big thanks to Trent again for being an invaluable source of information and listening to me when I've needed to vent over the last few years.  And for pushing me to go harder when I wanted to throw in the towel.

Will get some updated picks of the new engine bay and car when I get it back next week.

It's easy for me to push you, especially since it's not my money. 😂

Just happy you didn't give up and got the power figure you were after.

Far better. I just hope that manifold doesn't rust. It would spoil the beauty.

Dash looks mint too!
