Hi, I'm in Sydney and have a red ST185 with Caldina Gen4 engine. The biggest problem has been trying to find mechanics to get work done on it.

It's been a redhead of a car with lots of drama getting the engine swap done. Finally it's working but there's a lot of small things to fix up.

So it's great to see a Celica forum.

I also have a Renault Scenic which has been engine swapped that I chase Turbo-Meganes in.

Hopefully I will have my Celica going on the track instead of driving around in that thing !

Nice to meet everybody.

Hi clixx-io, welcome to the forums.

This place is full of knowledge to fix those dramas and finding a good mechanic to work on the GT4 is always a challenge.

Where does she need mechanical attention ?

Also, thanks heaps for all the replies. I'm fast learning that this may be the friendliest forum on the internet.

Thanks.

The first problem is the Gearbox VSS Connector. The last mechanic lost the 3-pin connector and wire when we transplanted the Caldina Wiring harness in so I need to find/buy a new/used one.

Are the VSS Connectors for the ST-185 the same as the ST-184 or Camry so I can get one from a wrecker ? I saw on ebay that they might be the same as for the 1JZ..

Then I'm trying to get the old 12V Tacho working with the new 5V Caldina ECU. The Internet told me that a 12V pulse would drive the tachometer but it doesn't seem to be so. I'd love to know how to drive the ST-185 tachometer from the Caldina 5V ECU output.

Can you post a pic of the gearbox side VSS connector ?

Hey welcome,

I've just done a caldina transplant, its been fun and games :)

what other things you have to do?

I think The st185 tacho wants to see 25v square waves.. I was searching in the net and you can get an adapter module or remove the resistor, I can't remember.
GT-Four Group A Rallye, Carlos Sainz Edition # 21 out of 150.
Gen 4 ST215 engine conversion, FMIC, Hatech Elite 1500, Forged CP pistons, ST205 rear calipers, front ST205 yet to install.

Thanks for the tip on that. I was able to find this page which was rather helpful. I will be trying that over the weekend.

Things that need to be sorted for registration are:

 - reverse light + blinkers

 - speedometer

 - cooling fan.

 - door locks (broken by locksmith)

Hopefully that's it.

I'm keen to use the car to go tracking. It's going to get some upgrades here and there for that.

That is some time away - sadly. It's frustration city at the moment.

I got a s/h wiper-arm from a ST184 at the wrecker and although it works it doesn't have the plastic down-force part of the original arm on the other side.

Toyota want $100 from Japan for the wiper-arms and it's amazing that they are still available. Although that's not too bad I'm wondering if there are actually special wiper arms for the GT-Fours? Compared to the standard cars there seems to be an extra aerodynamic addition there.

Radiator cooling fan purchased. Next step is to get that working from the ST-215W ECU control-line.
