I'm sick of people posting incorrect info on how to identify narrow versus wide body ST18x celicas, so please, humour me, read this, and then if you still think I'm wrong, support your statment with evidence?!

Step 1: Is your car an ST185 Celica? If the answer is no, then your car originally came with narrow body guards - what it may have on ther now, is not a topic for discussion - yet! Wide body only came of ST185 Celicas, but did not emcompass them all.

Step 2: How do I distinquish narrow from wide? - Lets only concern ourselves with cars still adorned in their factory fitted panels. Easiest way to determine the two is to look for factory fitted mudflaps - if they have them, it's narrow body, if they don't, it's could be wide body. Also look at the tail lights forward to the door, Wide body has a small crease around the outside of the tailight to return the flared guard to the taillight section, narrow body doesn't have this crease as the fender returns neatly to the light assembly. You can also look at the front fender lip - the narrow bodies items have a more defined return to the wheel arch than the wide bodies items, but this identification will take practice to decipher - stick to the first two points.

Step 3: What are the production differences in ST185 Narrow and Wide Bodies? - lets split it up into Aus Spec and Jap Spec:

Aus Spec: There is no such thing as a locally delivered GT Four narrow body car - if you have a local GT Four - it's wide body. You'll either have a GT Four or GT Four Group A Rallye. Ask Toyota Australia for an ST185 fender and you'll get a widebody item - simple, case closed.

Jap Spec: Right - sit down - this gets invloved! In Japan ST185 Celicas were produced from December 1988 - September 1993. If you had a GT Four made prior to August 1991, you more than likely had a narrow body, unless you had a GT Four A, or GT Four Group A Rallye (called RC over there, but basically the same spec as our loaclly delivered Group A's). These two variations both came from the factory with widebody guards, and every car regardless of spec will have a chassis number less than 15446. Jap spec cars with chassis numbers 15446 and on are all widebody, and are all produced after August 1991. want to find out exactly when your car was produced? Check here:

Easiest way to tell wide body's from narrows from the ass end is to look at the fuel cap lid. Narrows are almost flat, wides are really dished toward the wheel arch.

I was led to believe Australia's ST184 'WRC Edition' Celica's are widebody also, correct me if I'm wrong.

Just a small question, I was looking at going to wreckers to find a GT-Four style hood, however I have a ST184 (just after that wank factor :lolhit: ), does the Narrow vs. Widebody affect this.

Instead of making a new thread I figured I'd ask this in here (btw, I did a search and couldn't find anything hence the question).

Which is the series 1 and series 2 generations. I think I've got a S1, but not sure. Are the s2's the gens with the single slit front bumpers? As opposed to the dual slit & foglight bumper?

You are the owner of a Series II judging by your pic. BTW where are your fogs?

The Series I has single opening on the front bar and the rear lights and reflectors are red. Whereas the Series II has the two openings and fog lights, also rear lights have a black lining over the lights and reflectors. They are hot.

They were optional, i've seen a few Series II ST184s with black blanking plates inplace of the foggies..

Whats with the caps lock...

You have a ST184. It is narrow body. Unless by some mirracle someone replaced the front guards with Aus ST185 panels, which from the looks of your members ride, they havn't.

Nice thread crapping.
